Cameron County Genealogy Club will clean some headstones at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Newton Cemetery outside of Emporium.
Those who want to take part should meet at the cemetery at the intersection of routes 120 and route 155 and should wear old clothes and bring rubber gloves. Other supplies will be provided.
The plan is to work at Newton Cemetery if no funeral services are being held there, said club leader Wendy Davis.
In case of rain, a research meeting will be held at the History Center on Greenwood Street in Emporium.

Thank you. I live in Wisconsin so won’t be able to help clean stones, but I just wanted you to know that I appreciate your efforts. I am not aware of any of our local genealogist clubs that involve themselves in such a task. There is nothing better than locating your ancestor and arriving at a cemetary where you can actually read the stone. What method do you use to clean the stone? I have discovered that some methods I used in the past were actually harming the stone.
